The brilliant performance of Mohammad Nabi and the Afghanistan bowlers helped the team defeat Pakistan by six wickets in Sharjah.
It has been over 11 years since the two teams last met, and Rashid Khan’s team has finally won their first international match against Pakistan.
Afghanistan batted first and bowled second, putting on a clinical performance from start to finish despite losing the toss and being asked to bowl first.
The Pakistani batting effort was never able to get going because they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, which was made possible by some disciplined bowling from the home team.
In a total of 11 overs, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Nabi all took two wickets and only allowed 34 runs to score.
Rashid Khan joined the party and kept the scoring under control throughout the first innings.
Despite the fact that the target did not appear to be too difficult, the Pakistan bowlers were not going down without a fight.
Afghanistan’s pursuit appeared to be derailed, as they appeared to be in trouble at 45/4.
But the returning Nabi maintained his excellence and class, forming an unbeaten partnership with Najibullah Zadran to help Afghanistan win comfortably with more than two overs to spare.
Pakistan will look to bounce back from this defeat in the second Twenty20 International that will take place on March 27, while Afghanistan is on the brink of clinching a historic series victory.
